Abstract

|
Urinary excretion of 17-Ketosteroid and 17-Hydroxycorticosteroid was estimated weekly for a period of three weeks on eight hospital patients with various types of malignant neoplasms, to whom 20 mg-of 3-Methylcholanthrene was given intramuscularly daily.
The excretory pattern of both steroids was nearly the same. Gradual decrease of urinary excretion was found in the early period (one week after the injection of 3-Methylcholanthrene, followed by a continuous decrease except in two cases. One of these exceptions showed a gradual increase and the other returned to the original value.
It is assumed from this study that there might be a certain relationship between retardation or regression of the growth of malignant neoplasms and the indirect or diract deppressive influence to the adrenal cortex with the injection of 3-Methylcholanthrene.
